Hello. I’m a retired teacher in the Bennington, Vermont area. I’ve written a few children’s books for a project centered around providing free reading materials to the incarcerated. They were written as part of an effort to provide incarcerated parents with a way to communicate with their children.

My books are not intended to be great literature, but instead were designed to be able to be printed at a cost of less than twenty five cents ($0.25) and light enough to be mailed at low cost as well. An incarcerated parent can record themselves reading the book to their child, and the book and the recording could then be mailed to the child so the child could follow along with their copy as the parent reads to them.

Two of these books are on this site as examples.

The first book, one of a series of stories dealing with escapes from slavery on the Underground Railroad, is entitled “A Friend with Friends”, and can be viewed here.

The second book, one of a series of stories about missionaries who preached the Gospel along the American frontier, is entitled “The Good Messengers”, and can be viewed here.

College students often take courses that require them to write a children’s book as part of their course work. If you or someone you know has written a children's book and has been unable to market it, this program may be of interest to you. I would be willing to pay you $100 for the limited rights to publish your children’s book exclusively to an audience of incarcerated parents. Please contact me if you have written (or know of someone else who has written) a children's book that may be beneficial to this program.
